Allied Gold Mining Plc

Allied Gold Mining Plc is a growing Pacific Rim gold producer with production, exploration and development projects in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, one of which is Simberi Gold Company Limited.

Simberi is the northern most island in the Tabar group of islands in the province of New Ireland - the eastern most province of Papua New Guinea (PNG) some 900 kilometres from the capital of PNG, Port Moresby. Located at approximately latitude 2.5 degrees South and longitude 152 degrees East, Simberi is about 10 km long (east-west) and 8 km wide (north-south) and home to about 900 islander locals with access supported by a 26km road which circles the island. Most of the island's coast is steep (up to 300 metre in elevation) and surrounded by a fringing reef and deep plunging reefs given the island's volcanic origins.

Current mining activities are restricted to the eastern half of the island covered by a 2,560 hectare Mining Lease, whilst the western half of Simberi Island and parts of Big Tabar and Tatua Island are covered by a 223 sq. km Exploration Licence. Ore at Simberi is sourced from seven currently defined open pits. (Sorowar, Samat North, Samat South, Samat East, Pigput, Pigibo, and Botlu South). The highest grade pit at Samat was mined first whilst the Sorowar Pit is the currently largest defined oxide pit.

Processing recoveries have been consistently near 90% for much of Simberi's operational life. Processing involves a traditional Carbon in Leach (CIL) process with five CIL tanks.

Below the oxide pits on Simberi is a significant and growing sulphide ore resource. Allied is undertaking a feasibility study on the processing options for this resource.
